Mary Lodge "The eyes and mind of the artist are the soul to creation. Without them, nothing is created. The tools of the artist are an extension of his mind." –Jeff Roush

The Arts Council is happy to announce another photo workshop, *Photographic Portraiture*, to be held Saturday, May 3rd 2008 at the Heritage Center from 9am-2pm. The cost is $45 at the door and $40 pre-registration. Photographer Jeff Roush will again lead this workshop.

You can pre-register on line at or at the Paris Henry County Arts Council Office. Topics will be indoor and outdoor portraiture. Those attending the class will study doing portraits outside in different lighting situations and cover the equipment needed to produce high quality images. They will also do a hand-on studio lighting session with a complete studio setup, studio lighting and models.

Jeff will have those attending the session to study lighting, posing, cropping, controlling a photo session, what to charge, package print pricing, and a lot more. The program is designed for the photographer who has the desire to become more proficient using their camera as it specifically relates to the Portrait Photography Business.

Jeff RoushIn a recent interview Mr. Roush explained, "It seems that although digital cameras are getting easier to use people are finding out that cameras do not take photographs, people do. Just because you have the newest and greatest camera it does not make your photographs any better in most cases.

Certainly a new/better tool will give you higher quality results digitally, but artistically some feel they still lack the knowledge to get better. Actually, this is a common problem among many young photographers, something we'll address during this workshop.

Understanding the theory that the photographer is the artist, not the camera, and that this tool is useless without the vision and creativity of the artist is ultimately important.

All forms of art in many ways are the same process creatively. Photographers, however, seem to think we can circumvent the creative process and just shoot image after image. Certainly the law of averages will give us one good image out of 50, or out of 100, or 500 photographs.

In this workshop one of your primary goals is to take control, total control of our camera and learning to control the light. Understanding some of the basics of both of these areas will make us better, more creative and more efficient photographers".
