There are many ways to participate in the arts! Here are some of the upcoming activities in our area:
Upcoming 5th Grade Field Trips to TPACHenry School will be seeing NEA Jazz Masters Conducted by David N. Baker.
"The best jazz repertory in the country," according to the New Yorker, performs for Tennessee students
as part of the NEA's effort to bring Jazz Masters to every state. Highlighting the progression of jazz from its early roots through the big band swing era, the sixties and bebop, the superlative orchestra was founded by Congress.
David N. Baker is an internationally famous jazz composer, conductor, and educator who has played with the bands of Quincy Jones, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, and Lionel Hampton and has written more than 70 books on jazz.
Harrelson School will be seeing Strings of Fire - Ramon Ramero and Cuerdas de Fuego Ensamble
The rich, traditional melodies of South America and Cuba bridge cultures and complement lessons in history, geography, and music. This lively trio features Ramon Romero on the harp, the national instrument of his native Paraguay, with
a guitarist from Chile and percussionist from Cuba, all sharing music and folk songs from their native lands. Romero, a world renowed concert and recording artist, spins a magical world of sound with the smaller, lighter cousin to the concert harp,
making the instrument mimic everything from the sweet trills of birdsong to the rumbles and whistles of a train.
Lakewood and PES will be seeing Snappy Dance Theater
Blending and bending modern dance with gymnastics, physical comedy, circus skills, and special effects, this Boston dance theater company's work is entertaining and accesible. Choreographer Marth Mason and her troupe find astonishing ways to create
and communicate with movement drawing from literature, sculpture and physics for inspiration. This artistic and athletic performance takes students on a thought-provoking journey, surprising the eye, tickling the funny bone and crossing the boundaries of age,
gender, and culture.
