ArtyFacts for September
Fall has arrived and everyone is invited to kick off my favorite season with Arts ‘Round the Square. The time has arrived, the excitement is bubbling over, and you do not want to miss the fun! This Saturday our beautiful court square will be teeming with over 30 artists exhibiting their talents, competing for prizes, and selling beautiful artwork. The entries have been beautiful, intriguing and diverse and I am excited to see the new artists and the old favorites who will be participating this year.
As the centerpiece of Eye Full of Paris weekend, Arts ‘Round the Square has something to offer everyone. In addition to the artist’s wares and demonstrations, we will have food, music, and fun for the whole family. Music will be playing all day and includes The Old 23rd District, Scott Myatt & Steve Short, Bethel Renaissance Theatre, Josh McKee, The Shepherd Family, and the Bethel Bluegrass Band. In case that is not enough, the kids from KPAC Children’s Theatre will be performing on the court house steps between sets. The Kid Zone will feature fun activities for the little ones to explore their artistic side.
Don’t worry about needing to leave for food because we’ve got that covered too! We will be popping fresh popcorn at our Booth. The men of Trinity UMC will be preparing their yummy ribeye sandwiches and Perry’s BBQ will be there with delicious pulled pork sandwiches, barbeque bologna, barbecue nachos, and more. Cajun Snoball will be on hand to get your sweet fix. It’s always exciting to have a new option for lunch so we are excited to be welcoming The Eat Box to town for the event! They will be serving burgers and dogs, meatball subs, chicken quesadillas, and shrimp po’boys.
The Paris Henry County Arts Council is happy to help kick off fall every year with this fun filled day. A big shout-out to our sponsors for this event, Boutique MariMac, Foundation Bank, and Henry County Title & Escrow. The event is free to the public… so see you there!
In just a couple weeks we have another exciting annual event. The Youth for the Arts Krider Idol will be held on Saturday, October 10 at 7pm. Every October this event showcases some of the incredibly talented youth from our area, and this year will be no exception. You can purchase your tickets directly from our new website, from any participant, or from the Arts Council office. Your attendance supports these talented kids as they compete for the title of Krider Idol, and helps raise funds for the Youth for the Arts Scholarship Program, which has already given out over $40,000 in local scholarships for school age students and school based programs. Thank you to All-Temp Heating & Cooling, Greer, Greer, & Whitfield, Joe Mahan Ford and The Johnson Agency for generously sponsoring this event.
Speaking of scholarships and fundraising, it is about time for the Paris Henry County Arts Council’s membership drive. The Arts Council works to promote the arts by bringing artists into Henry County and by working to provide opportunities for the artists who live and work here. I am so happy to be involved in promoting the arts in a place like Henry County, where arts are so strongly supported by our community. The work we do isn’t without expense and we are thankful for the donations we receive each and every year. To show our gratitude, this year we want to give back to you, our supporters! Your tax deductible donation gives you membership in the PHC Arts Council and this year membership will come with benefits. Look for a letter with details coming in October or check our new website
