Meet Our 2024 Judge

Jeff Roush

Jeff Roush is a 45 year veteran to the advertising, portraiture, wedding, and professional photographic field. His career has led him from his beginnings in the early 1980’s in Toledo, Ohio to the West Coast, spending over a decade in Los Angeles and Phoenix. He now finds his home, being partially retired, in West Tennessee. All of these locations offered fierce competition for commercial photographers. However, he excelled in each of these major markets due to his honest business practices, complete understanding of the photographic craft and the arts. His relentless desire for excellence drove him to be the best he could possibly be.

His classical training in photographic art has allowed him to work for many Fortune 500 companies over the years, photographing products for catalogs, calendars, brochures, annual reports, and all of their marketing and sales materials. His clients have sent him around the world to capture and create award-winning images.

Along with his successes as a professional commercial photographer he’s also taught photography, both at the film level many years ago to the digital environment that we have now. . While teaching privately and at the college level he discovered a real need for a new educational approach to young photographers. So, in 2001 he developed several in-depth online digital photography programs and courses. He currently carries an enrollment of about 75 students at any given time in these programs while also teaching in the classroom at several local colleges around this area.

“Teaching is extremely rewarding; there is nothing like witnessing the look on a student’s face – that epiphany - when they figure out something new that will make them a better photographic artist.”

He has been very active in sponsoring, teaching, and organizing photography workshops and fieldtrips around the USA. Recently he hosted weekend-long workshops in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and on the beaches of Florida. He’s also responsible for started and running four different photography clubs around our state. The Camera Club Council of Tennessee took him as on as their Educational Director 15 years ago and he held that position for a long time, offering workshops and educational articles for their newsletter and events.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to say that I’ve spent most of my life doing what I love – photography and then teaching what I know to others.”
