ArtyFacts for August
The Paris Henry County Arts Council is working hard to bring the best ever arts event to our beautiful court square. The 9th annual Arts Round the Square is coming Saturday, September 26th from 9 am-4 pm. One of the features of the “Eye-Full of Paris” Weekend, this event brings artists from around the region to showcase and sell works from painting to jewelry to ceramics. The lawn will be filled with artists and there will be fun crafts and games for the little ones. There will be live music for any taste, thanks to the Downtown Paris Association. There will be food and fun for all! We are very thankful to our generous sponsors for this event, Boutique MeriMac, Foundation Bank, and Henry County Title & Escrow.
We are currently accepting applications from exhibitors and food vendors. If you would like to display and sell your art, we are looking for you! This is a juried show and prizes will be awarded for best artist in nine different categories: oil and acrylic painting, watercolor painting, wood working, fiber arts, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, missed median, and photography. With a low entry fee of only $30 for a single artist booth, it is easy to be part of the show. You can even do a group booth for only $60. The early registration deadline is almost upon us, so hurry and get your application in to keep costs low.
Applications can be printed off our web site at www.phcarts.com or stop by our office at city hall to pick up one. All work must be original design by the artist. Full details and rules can be found on all applications and on our web site. If you need more information or would like to volunteer please contact the Arts Council by email at phcarts@gmail.com
Another annual event will be coming quickly on the heels of Arts ‘Round the Square. Krider Idol will take place at the Krider Performing Arts Center on October 10th and that means we are looking for local talent to light up the stage!
Auditions are being held on Saturday, September 12th, in the Strings room at Paris Elementary Schoolfrom 10am-1pm. Students between the ages of 9 and 18 are encouraged to bring your best performance and join us as we compete to crown this year’s Krider Idol!
These are just the two examples of the exciting events we are planning for this year. In addition to the many other things we have coming your way, there will be other opportunities for you to see and participate in the arts this fall. The Lee School for the Arts is planning a new and exciting event called ArtJam on October 24. With live music and exciting auctions, this will be a great event for all. KPAC Players has announced plans to produce a Christmas play, Yes, Virginia the Musical. They are holding auditions for ages 8 through adult September 5 & 6. Check out their website for more information. Isn’t it exciting to live in a town where the arts are loved and supported?
